Playtech, one of the world’s largest suppliers of slot games and live dealer games for online casinos, has officially confirmed that it joined the race for the acquisition of SKS365 Malta Holdings, a casino operator based in Malta but focusing on the Italian market.

SKS365 Malta Holdings is operating PlanetWin, a brand that has a prominent presence in the Italian market, both online and land-based. Both Playtech and Flutter, another iGaming giant, have submitted official bids for the company.

Sources quoted by SkyNews revealed that the deal could be worth over 600 million dollars but the price could well surpass the 700 million dollar mark as Lottomatica, an Italian operator, is also believed to be preparing a bid.

Playtech is the only one of the three potential bidders that has come forward to confirm the speculation. The company released a statement in which it revealed its participation in the process regarding the acquisition of SKS365 Malta Holdings.

“Playtech is aware that there are other parties who are also participating in the process and who have expressed an interest in acquiring SKS,” the statement added. “There can be no certainty that Playtech will be successful in the process nor that any transaction regarding the potential acquisition of SKS will be agreed,” the statement continued, while the company reassured its investors that it will make further announcements in due course.

Expanding Presence in Italy and Beyond

Playtech already has a strong presence in the Italian market, mainly through Snaitech, its Italian-facing brand. If the company manages to acquire SKS365, then its position in this market will become a lot stronger. Snaitech has been one of the best-performing businesses in the Playtech group in recent years.

The supplier has also moved in other markets recently, with the most significant piece of business being the acquisition of a minority equity ownership stake in Hard Rock Digital, the interactive gaming and sports betting division of Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming.

Playtech has also strengthened its position in North America by signing a subscription agreement with NorthStar Gaming, the Canadian online casino and sportsbook operator from Toronto. The agreement will see Playtech expand its stake in NorthStar gaming with another 10 million Canadian dollars’ worth of shares.
